The work has now been completed.
The lakes are now open.
We are now awaiting fish stocks from the Environment Agency fish farm, hopefully it will be done this winter
Back in 2006 at one of the Kent Fisheries Consultative Association meetings that I attend at the Kent Environment Agency office, Jon Whitmore Kent Fisheries Team Leader asked every one at the meeting, if there were any waters that require any improvements, so I sad to him about Montreal Park with the problems we had with the blue green algae and the amount of silt in the lake. In 2007 I have a meeting with the Kent Environment Agency Fisheries Team member Ben Lord and Fisheries Project Officer Damien Nixon also at the meeting was three contractor's at Montreal top lake. It was agreed that a survey of the lake was need to see how much silt was in the lake. The survey was done in October 2007. The survey results came back in Jan 2008.
The total silt volume determined from the survey was estimated at 1028m3 and was not harmful only leaf mould and the lake is approximately 2500m2 in area.
I arrange for five contractor's to give the society quotes on the removal of the silt. The committee had a look at all the quotes and have decided on Warren Farm Groundwork's to do the work.
The work involves draining down the lake and removing the fish to a new home. Then letting the silt to dry out so its light to move dry than when its wet.
